This May, as in past years, the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, known by many as the Circuit de Montmeló, will host one of the world's great spectacles, the Formula 1 event. As is customary with sporting events of this magnitude, during the days when the competition is taking place, enthusiasts—motor racing enthusiasts in this case—will flock to Barcelona to watch the F1 and visit the city. Every year, the month of May brings the roar of engines to Montmeló, which is situated less than half an hour away by car from the centre of Barcelona. The Spanish F1 Grand Prix is one of the most important dates in the diary of all motor racing enthusiasts. F1 fans will be able to get a close-up view of their idols, top drivers like Sebastian Vettel, Lewis Hamilton and the Spaniards Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz, who come to the Circuit every year. EnjoyBCN has produced this short guide so that you can make the very most of your stay in Barcelona during the F1 Grand Prix and take home some fantastic memories of your trip.
The fifth race in the Formula 1 GP 2017 season, the Pirelli Spanish Grand Prix, will take place on 12-14 May at the Circuit de Catalunya. Of all the world favourites, once again Mercedes will be the key team to beat. Even so, we should not forget Ferrari, the team of “Il Cavallino Rampante”, or Red Bull or McLaren Honda, who, as in past years, have their hopes pinned on double world champion Fernando Alonso. If you would like to attend the practice and qualifying sessions and, of course, the GP race itself, we recommend taking a look at the timetable to be found on the official website of Circuit Barcelona-Catalunya.
This Formula 1 Grand Prix race will take place at the Circuit Barcelona-Catalunya. Most people know this racetrack as the Circuit de Montmeló due to its location. It opened its doors in 1991 and staged its first F1 Grand Prix just a few weeks later. Today, the Circuit de Catalunya-Barcelona hosts top competitions like the MotoGP Grand Prix, the F1 Grand Prix and the FIA World Rallycross Championship. As if all these events were not enough, in 2005 the Circuit created a Young Driver Programme to promote young talent behind the wheel and help young drivers launch their professional career.
The Circuit de Catalunya has a capacity of 131,000 spectators. The Pirelli Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix 2016, held on 13-15 May, was attended by more than 165,000 spectators.
If you want to buy tickets for the Spanish F1 Grand Prix 2017, you can do so online, selecting the type of pass you would like: for 3 days, 3 sessions, 1 day, etc.
There are several ways of getting to Montmeló, which is situated just over 30 km from Barcelona. If you are travelling by car, you can reach the Circuit de Catalunya from EnjoyBCN's Gaudí apartments in less than 30 minutes. If you prefer public transport, you can travel to Montmeló by train on Renfe's "rodalies" service (lines R2 and R11). Alternatively, Sagalés offers a special coach service during the Grand Prix event, which runs from the centre of Barcelona to the East Area of the Circuit. If you wish to use this service instead of the train, you should buy your tickets on the Sagalés website in advance.

This was the best Airbnb we've ever stayed in around the world and we have visited many over the last few years. The location can't be beat. The management company was responsive, helpful and super thoughtful. We had small treats waiting for us and our kids upon arrival and other nice touches during our stay. We have recommended this location and company to all others who visit Barcelona.
Wow, what a great review, thank you very much! We are so happy to see that you had such a great stay and felt well taken care of. It is also so great to see that your children liked our little treats. We thought they may like it. It has been a pleasure to host you. We'd love to see you and all the family again soon!
